Trusted Auto Glass Providers in Hampton Roads

How Windshield Scout vets every provider in our referral network

Disclosure

Windshield Scout is a referral and lead-generation service. We connect you with independent, licensed auto glass providers. We are not the repair shop. All work, warranties, and liability are the responsibility of the individual provider you choose to work with.

How Providers Are Vetted

Not every auto glass shop in Hampton Roads meets our standards. Before any provider receives referrals through Windshield Scout, we confirm that they meet a baseline set of operating requirements. We do not place providers in the network solely on the basis of price or availability — they must demonstrate that they operate as legitimate, accountable businesses.

Vetting is ongoing. If a provider generates consistent complaints, fails to honor stated warranties, or loses required licensure, they are removed from the network.

Virginia Business License Requirement

Every provider in the Windshield Scout network must hold a current Virginia business license. Operating without one is illegal under Virginia law. We require proof of active licensure before accepting a shop into the network and periodically reconfirm status.

If you are ever unsure whether a shop is properly licensed, you can verify Virginia business registrations through the Virginia State Corporation Commission.

Insurance and Liability Requirement

Every provider must carry general liability insurance. This protects you in the unlikely event that a technician causes damage to your vehicle during the repair or replacement. We confirm active coverage before a provider joins the network.

You should always ask any provider — including those in our network — to confirm their insurance coverage before work begins. A legitimate provider will not hesitate to answer this question.

Workmanship Warranty

Network providers are required to stand behind their installations. This means a written or stated warranty covering at minimum:

Warranty terms vary by provider. Windshield Scout is not a party to any provider warranty — the warranty is between you and the shop. Before approving work, ask the provider to confirm their warranty terms in writing or via text.

Same-Day and Mobile Service Capability

Hampton Roads drivers often need service quickly. Providers in the network are expected to offer:

Mobile service is covered under most comprehensive auto insurance claims at no extra charge. There is no penalty for requesting mobile service instead of in-shop.

Direct Insurance Billing

Every provider in our network is expected to bill your insurance company directly. You should not have to pay out of pocket and then seek reimbursement. The provider files the claim on your behalf, contacts your insurer to verify coverage, and collects payment directly from the insurance company.

For windshield repairs under comprehensive coverage, the cost is frequently $0 out of pocket. Replacements are typically subject to your deductible. Virginia Code §38.2-517 protects your right to choose the provider — your insurer may recommend a shop, but cannot require you to use one as a condition of settling your claim.

What to Ask Before Approving Any Work

Whether you find a provider through Windshield Scout or anywhere else, ask these questions before authorizing a repair or replacement:

  1. Are you licensed to operate in Virginia?
  2. Do you carry general liability insurance?
  3. What does your workmanship warranty cover, and for how long?
  4. Will you bill my insurance directly?
  5. Do I need ADAS recalibration, and is that included?
  6. What brand and type of glass will you use — OEM or aftermarket?
  7. What is the safe drive-away time after installation?
  8. Will you provide written confirmation of the quote before starting?

A qualified, accountable provider will answer every one of these questions directly and without hesitation. If a shop is evasive on any of them, that is a warning sign.

Why Windshield Scout Is Free for Drivers

There is no cost to use Windshield Scout. You never pay a fee, subscription, or markup by connecting through our network.

Windshield Scout earns revenue through referral arrangements with network providers. When a provider receives and completes a job from a Windshield Scout lead, they pay a referral fee. This is standard practice in lead-generation and referral networks across many industries.

This arrangement does not affect the price you pay. Providers set their own pricing and do not charge you more because you came through Windshield Scout. The referral fee is a business-to-business arrangement between Windshield Scout and the provider.
